I have a B.Sc. in Biology at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and a M.Sc. in Ecology at the Institute of Ecology, A.C. (INECOL), Mexico. Additionally, I studied a specialization in Data Science at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (ENES Morelia - UNAM). I am currently a Ph.D. student at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

My general interest is the study of ecological processes through mathematical modeling and big data analytics. Currently, I am interested in the response of terrestrial ecosystems to the climate crisis. It is particularly important to assess the response of drought-sensitive ecosystems such as the Mediterranean, where summer water availability is expected to decrease over the next years as a consequence of climate change. My project will be focused on the improvement of predictive models of drought impact on the dynamics of the Mediterranean forest. The main tool of my project is a process-based model developed in the R package 'Medfate' designed to simulate forest functioning and dynamics. I will use remote sensing data, databases from forest inventories and global databases to improve the modeling of changes in water use and drought response and the enhancement of drought monitoring on a regional scale.
